Centre for Women's Development and Research-CWDR

Cover photo.png

Centre for Women's Development and Research (CWDR) empowers women from marginalized communities in Tamil Nadu. We provide support, resources, and opportunities to help them overcome socio-economic challenges. By promoting self-reliance and advocating for gender equality, we ensure that women can exercise their rights, live with dignity, and contribute to society.

Why We Do

CWDR believes gender equality is key to a fair society. Women play vital roles in families and communities but often lack the opportunities they need. We empower women and girls to live with dignity, independence, and opportunity, creating spaces for them to advocate for their rights and improve their economic situations, leading to lasting change.

Impact

In 30 years, CWDR has empowered over 50,000 women and girls. Manushi, an all-women domestic workers' union, advocated to  create the Domestic Workers Welfare Board. Manushi actively advocates for government regulation of domestic work based on the ILO convention ‘Decent Work for Domestic Workers’.. Maithri has supported 2,000 single women with income-generation, counselling, and legal aid. Snehidhi has reached 15,000 adolescent girls, providing education on sexual and reproductive health rights and life skills. Our G2G-Girls to Graduates programme supported 120  girls to continue their education up to graduate level.
